Community Policing

Community & Police Partnerships - An Unbeatable Team

Public Safety is a citywide concern.  Crime and disorder in our Community cause citizen frustration, uneasiness and fear. Traditionally, Police respond to calls, investigate crimes and make arrests.  The process alone does not reduce crime.  Crime and public safety issues are community problems.  They require the commitment of the community and the police to solve them together.  The Galveston Police Department is committed to developing a stronger relationship with the citizens of the City of Galveston through Community Policing.

What Is Community Policing?

Community Policing is a collaborative effort between a police department and the community that identifies problems of crime and disorder and involves all elements of the community in the search of solutions to these problems.  It is founded on close, mutually beneficial ties between police and community members.

 Does Community Policing Work?

No single agency can solve complex problems alone.  A combined community-police effort restores the safety of our neighborhoods and business districts.

Officers who know both a community's problems and its residents can link people with other public and private agencies that can help solve community concerns.
